Tepsa secures strategic Huelva Port concession to expand Spain terminal network

Tepsa has secured a significant milestone in its Spanish growth strategy after being awarded an approximately five-hectare concession by the Port Authority of Huelva. The project has already obtained the necessary environmental permits, while Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) is currently underway, marking the next phase of development.

The Huelva facility will become Tepsa’s fifth port terminal in Spain, strengthening the company’s national footprint across all Spanish coastlines. Located within Spain’s second-largest petrochemical hub, the terminal also benefits from access to one of Europe’s most competitive renewable energy regions, positioning it as a strategic asset for both conventional and emerging energy markets.

Designed as a multi-purpose storage and logistics hub, the new terminal will handle chemicals, biofuels and new energy products. Regulatory approvals have already been secured for ammonia storage, reflecting the terminal’s role in supporting the evolving energy landscape. Commercial operations are expected to commence in 2029.

According to Nuria Blasco, managing director of Tepsa Iberia, the Huelva development represents a key strategic investment for the company.

“Huelva is a strategic location for Tepsa, expanding our network across all Spanish coastlines and strengthening our position along the trade routes connecting the Mediterranean with the Americas and Asia. For our group, establishing a presence from Rotterdam to Huelva was an important step in supporting the opportunities emerging from the energy transition. The Huelva terminal will provide a platform for future growth in new energy products and molecules,” Blasco said in comments to El Conciso.

The terminal is being developed to support multiple supply chains and logistics flows, offering storage solutions for chemicals, biofuels and bio-feedstocks across import, distribution and hub operations. Its strategic location is expected to enhance connectivity between European, American and Asian markets while supporting the increasing demand for infrastructure linked to the global energy transition.

The concession marks an important step forward for Tepsa’s long-term expansion plans, reinforcing the company’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports both traditional petrochemical industries and the growing market for sustainable energy products. As engineering and development progress, the Huelva terminal is set to become a key component of Tepsa’s future logistics network.
