PETRONAS and Shizuoka Gas reinforce longstanding LNG partnership

PETRONAS LNG Ltd. (PLL), a subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), has signed a new liquefied natural gas sale and purchase agreement with Japan’s Shizuoka Gas Co., Ltd., extending a commercial partnership that has spanned three decades and reinforcing both companies’ commitment to long-term energy security.

Under the agreement, PETRONAS LNG will supply approximately 0.84 million metric tonnes (MMT) of LNG over a seven-year period beginning in 2032. The company said the supply will be sourced from its diversified global LNG portfolio, providing Shizuoka Gas with greater flexibility and reliability to meet evolving energy demand amid changing market conditions.

The agreement reflects increasing demand for flexible LNG supply arrangements as utilities and energy companies seek to strengthen supply resilience and enhance energy security in an increasingly dynamic global energy market.

The agreement was commemorated during a signing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur attended by PETRONAS Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Gas and Maritime Business Datuk Adif Zulkifli and Shizuoka Gas Representative Director and President Yoshitake Matsumoto.

“This agreement marks more than a commercial milestone; it reflects 30 years of mutual trust, shared growth and a partnership that has continued to evolve alongside the changing energy landscape,” said Adif. “We value the strong relationship we have built with Shizuoka Gas and look forward to deepening our collaboration in the years ahead.”

He added that PETRONAS remains committed to delivering reliable and flexible LNG solutions through its global portfolio as customers’ energy needs continue to evolve, while supporting long-term energy security and advancing a pragmatic and responsible energy transition.

The ceremony also celebrated the 30th anniversary of the first LNG cargo delivered by PETRONAS to Shizuoka Gas, highlighting a long-standing partnership that has grown alongside Japan’s expanding LNG market and changing energy requirements.

Building on three decades of collaboration, the two companies said they intend to strengthen their relationship beyond the traditional supplier-customer model by exploring opportunities to support decarbonisation initiatives across the LNG value chain.

PETRONAS is one of the world’s leading LNG suppliers and continues to leverage its integrated global portfolio to provide reliable energy supplies to customers worldwide, supporting energy security while contributing to the ongoing energy transition.
