Emerson has introduced a new flameproof model of its Rosemount™ 965 Flame Detector, expanding its capabilities for hazardous-location applications where reliable hydrocarbon flame detection is critical.
The new model combines Emerson’s QuadSense™ technology, factory-calibrated-for-life operation, flexible integration options and rugged enclosure protection to support fire protection strategies tailored to demanding industrial environments.

Designed to help operators enhance safety in hazardous areas, the flameproof Rosemount 965 enables reliable flame detection while reducing routine maintenance requirements and offering deployment flexibility across a range of applications.
The detector’s QuadSense technology uses four infrared sensors to help differentiate hydrocarbon fires from non-flame background radiation, improving detection reliability while reducing the risk of nuisance alarms. Under specified conditions, the detector can identify hydrocarbon fires at distances of up to 45 metres (150 feet), with typical response times of less than five seconds. Five selectable sensitivity levels allow users to configure performance according to site requirements.
The Rosemount 965 is factory calibrated for life, helping minimise recurring calibration activities. Built-in infrared testing capabilities continuously monitor optical and electronic integrity, supporting operational confidence between scheduled inspections. The detector also offers multiple output options, including HART® connectivity, enabling integration with existing communication systems. Universal wiring simplifies installation and supports streamlined deployment across facilities, while IP66 and IP68 enclosure ratings provide protection in harsh operating conditions.
The flameproof model is suited for applications including oil and gas facilities, chemical and petrochemical plants, storage tank farms, hazardous material storage areas, and explosives or munitions sites. It can also support non-hazardous and light-industrial environments such as transport infrastructure, public facilities, cable tunnels, semiconductor manufacturing sites and warehouses where dependable hydrocarbon flame detection is required.
