DEDICATED 100% TO THE GLOBAL TANK STORAGE INDUSTRY

CB&I and AG&P Industrial achieve first-of-its-kind milestone with all-steel full containment LNG tanks in the Philippines

CB&I and AG&P Industrial have completed and commissioned two 60,000m³ full-containment liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks at the LNGPH Ilijan LNG Facility in the Philippines, marking a significant milestone for the country’s LNG infrastructure development.

The project is the first large-scale onshore LNG storage facility in the Philippines and features CB&I’s all-steel full-containment LNG tank technology. Under its agreement with AG&P Industrial, CB&I deployed a design that uses 9 percent nickel steel for both the inner and outer tanks, rather than the reinforced concrete outer walls typically used in conventional full-containment LNG tanks. The design was developed to meet applicable LNG industry technical and safety standards.

Commissioning of Tank 1 marked the first time an all-steel full-containment LNG tank entered commercial service. Tank 2 has since become fully operational following successful performance testing, providing a demonstration of the technology at commercial scale.

According to CB&I, the all-steel configuration offers potential advantages in project economics and construction schedules while retaining the safety and operational characteristics associated with full-containment LNG storage.

Construction of the two tanks was completed with zero lost-time incidents across more than one million work hours, highlighting the project’s safety performance.

Jack Aughenbaugh, vice president, Operations – International at CB&I, described the commissioning of both tanks as a landmark achievement, noting that the project demonstrates the technical feasibility and commercial potential of all-steel full-containment LNG storage.

The project was delivered by CB&I in partnership with AG&P Industrial in support of LNGPH. Alexander Leo Gamboa, President and CEO of AG&P Industrial, said the two companies had worked together to deliver what he described as the Philippines’ first and largest world-class LNG import terminal, adding that AG&P Industrial expected to collaborate with CB&I on future projects.
