Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of Sempra, has announced a 20-year sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Petrobras under which it will supply approximately 0.8 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The LNG will be sourced from Sempra Infrastructure’s contracted liquefaction capacity at the Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project, currently under construction in Jefferson County, Texas.
Justin Bird, CEO of Sempra Infrastructure, said the agreement marks an important milestone for the company’s growing LNG business and establishes Petrobras as the first South American company in its LNG customer portfolio. He added that the long-term agreement strengthens Sempra Infrastructure’s strategic relationship with one of the world’s leading energy companies and highlights the company’s role in providing reliable and secure US natural gas to customers worldwide.

Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 is strategically positioned to support growing global energy demand and reached a positive final investment decision in September 2025. The project will comprise two liquefaction trains with a combined production capacity of approximately 13 Mtpa of LNG. Once completed, Phase 2 will increase the total liquefaction capacity of the Port Arthur LNG facility from approximately 13 Mtpa under Phase 1 to up to approximately 26 Mtpa.
Port Arthur LNG Phase 1 is also currently under construction and is expected to achieve commercial operations at or near the end of 2027 for Train 1 and in 2028 for Train 2. Phase 2 is expected to commence commercial operations in 2030 and 2031 for Trains 3 and 4, respectively. Additional future phases of the project remain in the early stages of development.
In addition to its expanded liquefaction capacity, the Port Arthur LNG facility is expected to benefit from strategic access to abundant US natural gas resource basins, strong midstream connectivity and scalable infrastructure. As a cornerstone of Sempra Infrastructure’s dual-coast strategy, the facility is positioned to expand access to secure and reliable US natural gas supplies for customers across both Atlantic and Pacific Basin markets.
