Enbridge has returned its Line 5 pipeline to service after completing a temporary bypass around a damaged section near Saxon, Wisconsin.
The pipeline was shut down on 25th August after an unoccupied subcontractor flatbed truck rolled into an open excavation at a Line 5 valve project, striking the pipe and releasing natural gas liquids (NGLs), primarily propane and butane. No injuries were reported, although a nearby rural home was evacuated as a precaution.

Enbridge said the temporary bypass was pressure-tested before the pipeline was brought back into service. Work at the incident site is continuing, including environmental testing, remediation and the removal of the damaged soil.
The company said ongoing monitoring has found no impact on wildlife, surface water or a nearby residential well. Water monitoring wells have also shown no contamination, while air monitoring continues around the affected area.
The flatbed truck remains at the site as investigations continue. A no-fly zone ordered by the Iron County Sheriff also remains in place for safety reasons.
Line 5 supplies 10 refineries and propane production facilities serving millions of people across the Midwest and Great Lakes regions.
