Petrobras, PetroReconcavo, Brava Energia and Origem Energia extend UTG Catu gas processing contracts for the long term

Petrobras, PetroReconcavo, Brava Energia and Origem Energia have signed long-term contract addenda covering access to natural gas processing at the Catu Natural Gas Treatment Unit (UTG Catu) in Pojuca, Bahia, operated by Petrobras.

Effective immediately, the agreements are designed to ensure continuity in the processing of natural gas production while providing greater predictability for market participants. The agreements also reinforce the strategic role of the Catu facility in supporting natural gas production and energy supply in Bahia.

The Catu UTG is a key piece of infrastructure for the transportation and processing of natural gas produced from onshore fields in Bahia. In addition to supporting Brazil’s energy security, the facility contributes to regional economic activity and provides benefits to communities in the surrounding area.

According to Petrobras Executive Manager of Exploration and Production Stênio Galvão, the initiative is expected to support investment, optimise the use of existing resources and create more favourable conditions for the long-term development of the natural gas sector in Bahia.

One of the main changes under the agreements is the extension of the guarantee period for processing capacity from 2028 onward. The measure is intended to increase predictability for the companies involved while strengthening the operational reliability of the Catu gas processing facility.

The contract addenda also update commercial and operational conditions, with a focus on reducing costs and improving the utilisation of existing natural gas infrastructure in the region.

Petrobras Executive Manager of Gas and Energy Álvaro Tupiassu said the agreement highlights the importance of shared infrastructure in improving the efficiency and competitiveness of Brazil’s natural gas market.

PetroReconcavo CEO José Firmo said greater cooperation between Petrobras and independent producers represents progress for Brazil’s natural gas sector. He noted that expanded access to existing infrastructure can strengthen the competitiveness of the country’s onshore oil and gas industry by improving operational efficiency, increasing facility reliability and supporting the continued modernisation of processes, systems and equipment.

The companies said the agreements reinforce their commitment to supporting economic and social development in the regions where they operate while contributing to the development of a more open, competitive, liquid and efficient natural gas market in Brazil.

Petrobras is a Brazilian integrated energy company operating across oil and gas exploration and production, refining, natural gas and energy, with a strong focus on deepwater operations.
