HMT’s founders started the company in 1978. Their mission was to supply better storage tank technology to the energy industry. They created products that addressed emissions concerns – and that also eliminated operational problems caused by in-place floating roof and seal technologies. They helped position HMT to be the key environmental resource for the industries we serve.

Today, HMT continues to work to bring a distinctive level of innovation and integrity to the tank industry. We partner with customers to optimize tank operations, control emissions, and create customized solutions that make facilities more efficient, productive, and profitable.

To expand the range of our offerings, in 2020 HMT acquired Dunham Engineering, a leading structural and corrosion engineering firm specializing in tanks and towers. In 2021, we acquired ALLENTECH, a leading global supplier of aluminum internal floating roofs. These acquisitions expanded HMT’s capabilities and reach into new markets, allowing us to provide a more extensive array of enhanced engineering consulting services.

The founders’ spirit of innovation and product improvement continues – and extends beyond emissions reduction and operations. Our products and services result in increased safety, working capacity, and tank life span, and reduced maintenance and heel.

Products

HMT Aluminum Dome

The HMT Aluminum Dome features a clear-span, all-aluminum, lightweight, corrosion-resistant structure which sets a new standard for performance in aluminum domes.

HMT’s unique clamped-panel design and attention to detail at critical locations result in a cost-effective solution that provides superior protection of your stored product.

Fabrication Capabilities

Our storage tank fabrication capabilities cover a wide range of specialized services, including steel fabrication, laser cutting, CNC plasma cutting services, aluminum fabrication, and waterjet cutting for precise material processing. We also offer welding, beveling, plate and pipe rolling, as well as comprehensive tank fabrication services for bottoms, shell plates, and both fixed and floating roofs.

In addition, we fabricate essential structural components like nozzles, manways, and galvanized stairs, platforms, and rolling ladders. Our team is skilled in creating tank wind girders, fire protection and foam piping, floating roof legs and pressure vessels. To ensure durability, we provide blast priming and finish coatings for all projects.

Skin & Pontoon Internal Floating Roofs

The Aluminator WD (Welded Deck) internal floating roof is the premier solution among low-emissions aluminum IFRs. Built on the proven structural components of the Aluminator 1000 heavy-duty AIFR, but with sheeting joints welded instead of bolted, this roof qualifies as welded construction per US EPA requirements. The Aluminator WD has several advantages over welded-panel-based AIFRs, including decades of proven history in both the structural and buoyancy systems, emissions welds that are raised out of the product, and a more economical installation price.

HMT’s Unideck is a proven IFR technology that has been protecting stored liquid products in aboveground storage tanks for over 40 years. Constructed of corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy, the Unideck’s structural system provides a high strength-to-weight ratio that delivers an excellent balance of performance and economy.

While cost effective, the Unideck also features key structural upgrades where it matters most: at the perimeter. The Unideck differs from most conventional AIFRs in that its perimeter structure and connections to the main girders are designed to handle drag force and torque from perimeter seals and frequent operating cycles. In fact, the perimeter structure and leg housings utilize the same design as the Aluminator® 1000.

HMT Product Installation & Repair Services

HMT offers complete services for floating roof and seal repair and replacement. Our experienced field personnel have been leading the industry in floating roof and seal maintenance for over three decades.

HMT partners with our customers to perform work on any type or brand of floating roof system that exists. We can help you assess your existing floating roof and determine the most economical method of getting it back into service while achieving your future service objectives including life expectancy, product compatibility, regulatory compliance, capacity optimization, and heel reduction objectives.

In addition, our engineering team can assist with unique challenges such as atypical rim spaces, irregular tank shell navigation, and exceptional dynamic loading conditions.
