Uniper has selected Worley as the preferred engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for its proposed Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power (CQLCP) project in North Wales.

The appointment follows the completion of a competitive front-end engineering design (FEED) process that began in December 2024. The selection marks another milestone in the development of the proposed power station, which, subject to planning consent, will be constructed adjacent to Uniper’s existing Connah’s Quay power station.

A Development Consent Order (DCO) application for the project was submitted in August 2025, with a decision expected in the coming months.

Commenting on the appointment, Mike Lockett, Uniper UK Country chair, said the selection of Worley represents an important step forward for the CQLCP project. He also thanked both contractors that participated in the competitive FEED process, as well as the Uniper teams involved in reaching the latest project milestone.

If approved, the Connah’s Quay Low Carbon Power project will play a key role in supporting the UK’s transition to lower-carbon electricity generation.
