VIDA bioenergy has begun commercial operations at its Wormslade biogas facility in the United Kingdom following the successful injection of biomethane into the national gas grid, marking a key milestone in the project’s development.
The achievement enables the facility to begin supplying renewable biomethane to the UK gas network and represents a significant step in the company’s efforts to expand renewable gas production across Europe.

It allows us to begin ramping up production towards full capacity over the coming months.”
The Wormslade plant is designed to process approximately 46,000 tonnes of feedstock annually and produce around 68 GWh of renewable biomethane each year—enough to heat more than 5,000 homes. In addition to renewable gas, the facility is expected to generate around 70,000 tonnes of nutrient-rich digestate annually, which will be returned to farms as an organic fertiliser, supporting circular agriculture and reducing dependence on synthetic fertilisers.
Richard Sansom, director of Cadent’s East Midlands Network, welcomed the development, describing it as another step forward for the UK’s growing biomethane sector.

Projects such as Wormslade are helping to turn that ambition into reality.”
Wormslade is the fourth operational biogas facility in VIDA bioenergy’s portfolio and forms part of the company’s broader strategy to increase renewable gas production across Europe.
The company plans to continue ramping up biomethane production over the coming months, with the facility expected to reach full operating capacity by October 2026. Remaining commissioning work on auxiliary systems will also be completed ahead of final performance testing and handover to the operations team.
